One clients job we will never forget he brought in his lounge and said that we wanted it re-upholstered and upon completion we showed him is old fabric, and the even older fabric, so naturally the question came up “where did you get all my old fabrics from, that’s what the lounge used to look like”. We told him that the lounge was re-upholstered in such a bad way that we stripped of 4 layers of old fabric, and that we did not quote you a price for doing the extra work however, we were happy to take the extra time and explain why some upholsterers do this, the main reason is to save on cost of throwing away the old fabrics, how ever it makes for a poor job as the new fabrics doesn’t stretch over the old one in a sleek manner.

So it is buyer beware on the integrity of workmanship when having your furniture re-upholstered just make sure that you dont get the new fabrics over the top of the old ones.
